10:19 pm - I'm having trouble with the logic on this one...
Pay for five dinner/movies with a girl just so you can have sex with her in the end = Legal!

Pay a girl and another guy to have sex while you videotape it = Legal!

Pay a girl specifically to have sex with you = Illegal!

I'm reposting this for my girlfriend, who is moving up from a house in the suburbs to an apartment in the city. Please adopt her kitty! He's the sweetest guy you'll ever meet, and it's hilarious when he "breastfeeds" on your ear. XD

People of Washington, does anyone want
a really sweet indoor-outdoor tabby companion
?

He's SO sweet and loving. I hope he can find a good home :(

10:01 pm - My creed:
To love justice, to long for the right,
to love mercy,
to pity the suffering, to assist the weak,

to forget wrongs and remember benefits,
to love the truth, to be sincere,
to utter honest words, to love liberty,
to wage relentless war
against slavery in all its forms,

to love family and friend,
to make a happy home,
to love the beautiful in art, in nature,
to cultivate the mind,
to be familiar with the mighty thoughts
that genius has expressed,
the noble deeds of all the world;

to cultivate courage and cheerfulness,
to make others happy,
to fill life with the splendor of generous acts,
the warmth of loving words;

to discard error, to destroy prejudice,
to receive new truths with gladness,
to cultivate hope,
to see the calm beyond the storm,
the dawn beyond the night,
to do the best that can be done
and then be resigned.

This is the religion of reason,
the creed of science.
This satisfies the brain and the heart.

11:23 am - Meyer's Briggs Personality Test
ISTJ - "Trustee". Decisiveness in practical affairs. Guardian of time- honored institutions. Dependable. 11.6% of total population.

Introverted (I) 51.61% Extroverted (E) 48.39%
Sensing (S) 61.76% Intuitive (N) 38.24%
Thinking (T) 80% Feeling (F) 20%
Judging (J) 54.05% Perceiving (P) 45.95%

--

While I agree with my acronym, the "Trustee" part is almost total BS. "Time honored traditions", my ass!

Also, it kind of surprised me how close I was to the median on I/E and J/P, though it kind of makes sense.

10:43 am - The Seattle Freeze (no, it's not weather related)
I'd been trying for a while to figure out a way to describe Seattle, and the current "half Hippie, half asshole" wasn't cutting it. So I'm dropping the "asshole" part and adding in this:

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/pacificnw/2005/0213/cover.html

"But the dichotomy most fundamental to our collective civic character is this: Polite but distant. Have a nice day. Somewhere else.

We're the ideal seatmate on an airplane. We slide in, exchange a smile and a succinct pleasantry, then leave you be for the rest of the flight. Alaska Airlines should capitalize on this with ads that promise: "Uninterrupted service from Seattle — and we mean it."

Although that article tends to be excessively negative, and starts repeating itself to drive its point home, I can totally agree with that feeling. And I'll bet that almost everyone reading this journal is propagator of Genuine Seattle Hospitality: Very nice, very polite, very independent.

Cayt, does this help explain why it's so hard to make friends?

A Fundamental Wrong in Letting Some Marry

Lisa Pryor - March 31, 2007

The views I am about to express are not very fashionable. They are certainly not politically correct. But I believe what I am about to say must be expressed to protect the institution of marriage.

11:47 am - Halo 3 is Average
You heard me.

I'm not buying into the hype. Anything Halo 3 can do has already been done better in other games, and with more interesting storylines, gameplay, and settings. And this guy agrees with me.

If only Halo hadn't been the first decent game for the Xbox and thus wasn't the saving grace for people who shelled out their life-savings for the green MS box, then we wouldn't be hearing so much about its sequels.

...and because this is good stuff to know. This is a pamphlet that's been distributed in Australia to couples who plan to move in together. It's probably the most complete and helpful information I've found, and I agree with almost everything they say on the subject.

Assuming that pageview-count is directly proportional to comment-count on LJ, I know that the number of people who read my LJ is declining and now falls between "few" and "none". However, this is my only source to say the things that I want to say to "the world". So, excuse the emo of this post, and as always feel free to comment...

10:30 am - A short essay on instincts vs. suicide
(I can't guarantee this post will be anything new to everyone reading it. But if you're a fan of evolution, sociology, psychology, or anthropology, you might enjoy this.)

We all know of the importance of self-preservation. It's even considered to be the driving force behind the majority of all human instincts. It's responsible for that voice in your head that says, "Look out for number one." There are many, myself included, who blame that voice for all the greed, corruption, and theft in the world. However, it can't be denied that, without this instinct to protect ourselves and better our own lives, civilization as we know it would not have come about.

Be wary...it's a bit of a long read )

Wow, that ended up being a LOT longer than I'd planned on. Many thanks to anyone who read it all!

If anyone hasn't heard of Chore Wars out there...well, I don't blame you. It was news to me until today, when I was catching up on Penny Arcade. From the main site:

Recruit a party of adventurers from your household or office, and whenever one of you completes a chore, you can log it and claim XP.

My first thought was, "Well, that's new." Then, after thinking about how much of a freakin' RPG addict I am, my second thought was, "That's a damn good idea." I can see this being used as a good way to give kids a concrete reward (or as concrete as video game advancement can be) for doing chores.

There are only two things about this that could/will screw it up. One is, obviously, people cheating and just sitting at the computer and logging in completed chores over and over. The other possibility is far less likely, and much more humorous:

Mom: Billy? Why are you vacuuming at 3am? Get to bed!
Billy: But moooom...I'm only a few experience points from level 10!
